Success Stories

At Slight Edge Physical Therapy, we pride ourselves in providing the best rehab service for our athletes and active adults. Here are a few of our most successful athletes:

Mike

“Working with Griffen was the best thing I’ve done for my health since starting CrossFit.”

Mike came to Slight Edge PT with right sided hip pain that was limiting his ability to do squat cleans, full depth squats, and sleep restfully. After identifying some key limitations, Dr. McBride created an individualized rehab program with clear modifications and progressions back to pain free squats and cleans. After 10 weeks, Mike was no longer needing to use NSAIDs for pain reduction, was sleeping soundly, and was able to perform lifts pain free.

Taylor

“I was having back pain when squatting with > 185 lbs. After a couple months of implementing the things I talked about with Griffen, I was able to squat 385 lbs pain free.

Taylor came to Slight Edge PT with low back pain limiting his ability to squat. Dr. McBride assessed his squat and identified some range of motion deficits as well as positional intolerances of his low back. Commitment to the program and improvements in hip internal rotation deficits, positional strengthening, temporary modifications such as doing Zercher squats, and confidence in his low back led to Taylor hitting 385 lb squat the end of his squat program.

Josie

“Griffen helped me feel athletic again and regain confidence in my knees.

Josie came to Slight Edge Physical Therapy after having knee pain from previous ACL tears from college basketball. She wanted to have structure, support, and accountability to help her train for a 5k. Dr. McBride did an assessment, talked about goals and equipment availability, and created an individualized training plan. She crushed the 5k and continues to work with Slight Edge PT to be the fittest and best mom she can be.

Levi

“Griffen helped me recover from a torn labrum and bicep tendinitis. Through manual adjustments and a well thought out plan on how to strengthen and engage my rotator cuff and surrounding muscles. The great part is I didn’t have to stop training at all with this approach.

Levi came to Slight Edge Physical Therapy with an MRI confirmed SLAP tear and bicep tendinitis. To decrease the pain, we started with dry needling, soft tissue, and joint work. Once pain levels were decreased, we began progressing back to CrossFit movements through a detailed rehab program and weekly check ins to ensure progress. Now he is overhead pressing mountains with his boulder shoulders!

Kennedy

“I was a college athlete who had back, shoulder, and knee pain. Griffen helped me be more consistent in the gym and train pain free.

Kennedy came to Slight Edge Physical Therapy as a former collegiate throwing athlete. She had back, shoulder, and knee pain that was limiting her ability to be consistent in working out the way she wanted to. Dr. McBride created an individualized program based on her previous training history. She continues to train with Dr. McBride to help accomplish her goals.

Gavin

“Before working with Griffen I was dealing with some pretty intense tennis elbow for over a year. I tried peptides and physical therapy. His structure and program was able to keep me disciplined. Within 2 months, not only was I back to 100% pain free, but my power and overall physical health felt much better.”

Gavin came to Slight Edge Physical Therapy dealing with tennis elbow and wanting structure to be the best disc golfer possible. Based on the assessment, Dr. McBride created a rehab + performance program to help him train pain free, improve range of motion, and enhance performance as a pro disc golfer.

Lucy

“I had chronic back pains for the last 10 years that came and went. They were treatable temporarily with massage balls and foam rollers, but I wanted to find the root cause. For exercise, I did yoga 3-4 days/week. Griffen made programs to increase my strength and provide long-term relief.

Anthony

Anthony is a kickboxing athlete who wanted to work with Dr. McBride to improve his endurance and boost his recovery. He started working with Slight Edge Physical Therapy in Coralville prior to his last fight where he won by unanimous decision. He continues to work with Dr. McBride to become the best fighter possible.

Sam

“I used to dread snatches and overhead squats. After consistently doing Griffen’s mobility program, I feel more confident when those programmed in a WOD.”

Sam has been extremely committed to getting better at CrossFit while working full time, and his coach realized overhead mobility was limiting his progress. He had tight lats and capsular restrictions that are being addressed in his mobility program. Due to his adherence to the plan, Sam has made significant improvements in his mobility and confidence in CrossFit overhead movements.
