Functional Movement Screen

Not injured and trying to stay that way?

Looking to build a more resilient body that can withstand the season?

Have you had previous seasons cut short with injuries?

Do you want to get to the root cause of your injuries?

If you answered yes to the questions above, you are in the right place!

Functional Movement Screens are the premier way to diagnose and attack limitations in your movement that have been leading to injuries. They also identify areas that could be predisposing you to injury. With the help of Slight Edge Physical Therapy’s doctor of physical therapy, you can build a more resilient and injury resistant body.

Overhead Squat

In the overhead squat, you can easily be assessed from head to toe with a keen eye. Slight Edge Physical Therapy recognizes regional interdependence, which states that injuries/pain in one area could be caused by limitations in other areas. With the overhead squat, ankle, knee, hip, low and mid back, neck, and shoulder mobility can all be assessed in an efficient and effective fashion.

Hurdle Step

Asymmetries and range of motion limitations in the ankle, knee, and hip will be identified in this assessment. Trunk stability will also be assessed.

In-Line Lunge

The often neglected hip internal rotation range of motion and stability will be assessed in this movement. Imbalances between quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes will also be identified.

Shoulder Mobility

Both functional internal and external rotation range of motion will be assessed. Lack of motion in either movement can predispose an athlete to shoulder and low back injuries due to compensations in overhead movements.

Active Straight Leg Raise

This movement assesses ipsilateral hamstring extensibility and contralateral hip flexor extensibility. Compensations of low back, hip, knee, and ankle will also be assessed.

Trunk Stability Push Up

The trunk stability push up is an efficient and effective way to assess core stability during upper extremity movements. It helps identify weak links in the physiologic chain that could contribute to an injury if not corrected.

Rotary Stability

Sports either require rotational forces or anti-rotational forces. Either way, strong multifidi and obliques are necessary for peak performance as well as remaining healthy. This movement highlights deficits in the chain by combining both upper and lower extremity movements in a challenging position for your spinal stabilizers.
